Responsibilities & Duties

The Surveyor Assistant will be responsible for assisting the surveyor in the utilization of project controls and staking using a total station, GPS, and computer software in project assignments.

  • Laying out stakes and construction points using GPS instruments for surveys
  • Records survey information in the field
  • Places stakes at designated points and drives them into the ground at specified elevations using hammer or hatchet.
  • Assists Project Land Surveyor as needed
  • Perform field work associated with construction surveying
  • Conduct business with 100% integrity and professionalism
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirement

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience preferred
  • Experience with GPS machines
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications
  • Heavy civil construction experience preferred
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Must be able to follow directions
  • Ability to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
  • Move throughout a construction jobsite which includes minor obstacles including climbing ladders and inclines, operating heavy equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials
  • Work outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions such as rain, sun, snow, and wind
